A LETTER TO NEW MEMBERS OF ‘BROUGHTONKNOWE COMMUNITY WOODLAND Ltd.’ FROM THE CHAIRMAN:

Dear Member

Thank you very much for submitting the form to join Broughtonknowe Community Woodland Ltd. You are now an Ordinary Member of the company. Your show of support and confidence helped contribute to the positive funding decision you are probably now aware of, from the Scottish Land Fund (SLF). They have awarded £595,000 towards the purchase of the main woodland and the shed areas (Lots 1 and 3). We’re looking at further options for the dark wood north of the track (Lot 2), working with the current owner.

Our plan is to continue to fundraise and apply for the remaining balance and we are seeking a further £170k from a number of funding sources including local windfarms, local community funds and South of Scotland Enterprise. We’ll keep the website and Facebook pages up to date with progress. Our hope is that we can progress the purchase by early spring 2025. We also have a Crowdfunder page which you might want to consider making a donation through. Proceeds go towards the purchase and first year start-up/running costs.

The Directors are planning a members’ meeting after the new year in January/early Feb and we will be back in touch with the necessary information for that to formally occur.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE:     Work is gathering pace with our bid to secure funding to buy Broughtonknowe Woodland. We are at a critical point with our work and we need YOUR help. We need to be able to show the Scottish Land Fund (the nice people who are hopefully going to give us the money to buy the wood) that we have over 50 members in our newly formed Company* (soon to be a Charity, it’s a timing thing) – and we need to have this in place by 31st October at the latest!
